Occupational safety

When handling cement, protect your eyes, nose and mouth from the cement dust and avoid contact with the skin. Cement dries and irritates the skin, respiration system and eyes.

As concrete mix and fresh concrete are highly caustic and irritating, avoid contact with the skin when you handle them. Always use at least protective gloves when handling concrete mix and fresh concrete.

The water-soluble chromate in cement can cause allergic reactions in sensitive people when handling concrete mix. A small amount of iron sulfate is added to Finnish cement grades during production to passivate the chromate. The ability of iron sulfate to passivate the chromate is, however, weakened when it comes into contact with oxygen. For this reason, cement should not be stored for more than three months past the packaging date, even in good conditions.

Finnsementti is the only Finnish manufacturer of cement. Harnessing our century-long experience, we produce consistently superior cement and create jobs within our industry. The majority of Finland’s cement demand is produced at Finnsementti’s plants in Pargas and Lappeenranta. In addition to cement, our offering includes various concrete admixtures, mineral additives and special aggregates.
